James BestGreetings!

Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year! I am delighted to be serving my ninth year as Principal at Macungie Elementary School and extremely grateful to be surrounded every day by such very special people ~ students, staff, parents, and community members who are motivated, intelligent, caring and friendly!

Macungie Elementary School, home of the Macungie Tigers, is one of seven elementary schools in the East Penn School District. Our school presently houses approximately 440 students in Kindergarten through Grade Five. The staff includes eighteen classroom teachers, four Learning Support teachers, four special area teachers, an Instructional Support teacher (IST), guidance counselor, school psychologist, nurse, and twenty-three support personnel. The two-floor facility consists of twenty-six classrooms, four small group instruction rooms, an All Purpose Room, music and art rooms, a library/media center, and three separate playground areas.
This year, as always, we will be providing our students with an inviting learning environment brimming with exciting new academic experiences that will result in successful and rewarding learning for all! Academics will be aligned with the English Language Arts and Math Common Core and include a Balanced Literacy Program and student driven inquiry. Students will also enjoy many special events, exciting school meetings, reward lunches with the principal, and the very popular winter and spring choral concerts.

Every year students at Macungie are encouraged to display Cool C.A.T. (Caught Acting Terrific) that C.A.R.E.S. (Creating a safe community of learners, Accepting differences, Respecting one another, Encouraging responsibility, Striving for excellence) behaviors. Through this school-wide positive behavior support program, we teach, monitor, support and reward appropriate school behavior for all students at all times. The talented and dedicated staff and the caring families of Macungie work cooperatively throughout the school year to assist our students in developing emotionally and socially, as well as academically, so they successfully grow into productive, responsible, and respectful citizens.

We have a terrific Parent-Teacher-Child (P.T.C.) organization that helps us acquire things that supplement the education of every student here at Macungie. From educational materials and resources, to class field trips, and other special student and family events, our P.T.C. does absolutely magnificent things for our children. Please consider participating in the organization.
This is going to be another terrific school year! I look forward to working with all of the wonderful students, staff, and families of this community who make Macungie such a special place to learn and grow!

Best regards,
James T. Best, Principal
